What the prep covers

The REx-PN is a computer adaptive exam built around the practical nurse's scope of practice. The prep focuses on what the exam rewards: safe, practical decisions for clients with predictable outcomes, and knowing when to consult the RN.

  • Scope of practicePractical nurse decisions, collaboration and when to consult
  • Safety and infection controlPriorities, falls, restraints and safe care
  • Pharmacology and dosageMedication safety and fill-in-the-blank calculations
  • All REx-PN item typesMultiple choice, multiple response, calculation, exhibit and graphic
  • Personal study plan4, 8, 12 or 20 weeks, built around your exam date
  • Practice tests and readinessTimed exams in the portal and a readiness score

Why coaching instead of studying alone?

Many practical nurse candidates know the content but lose marks on questions that test scope of practice and priorities. Coaching shows you how the exam thinks, explains every rationale and keeps you on a realistic schedule.

Your prep is led by Jasraj Kaur, RN, BScN, MN, a Registered Nurse and Clinical Practice Leader who has served in healthcare since 2005. Classes are live online, and between classes you study in the Nursing Elite student portal: notes, recordings, practice tests, flashcards and a study plan.

REx-PN prep FAQs

What is the REx-PN?

The Regulatory Exam – Practical Nurse is the entry-to-practice exam for Registered Practical Nurses in Ontario and Licensed Practical Nurses in British Columbia. It is a computer adaptive test, so the difficulty adjusts to your answers.

Who leads the REx-PN prep?

Jasraj Kaur, RN, BScN, MN. She was a Registered Practical Nurse in Ontario before becoming an RN, and has taught nursing and worked in clinical leadership for many years.

Is the REx-PN the same as the NCLEX-PN?

No. The REx-PN is a separate exam developed for Canadian practical nurse regulators. Practice material for the NCLEX-PN can help, but the REx-PN follows Canadian practical nurse practice, so preparation should be aimed at it.
